Joe Cumley, EA, ATP, RFC

Financial Advisor & Accredited Tax Preparer

Joe is an author, financial advisor, accredited tax preparer, and an owner of several businesses in the Kansas City Metro area.

 

A native of Olathe, Kansas, he has been a contributing editor for several financial magazines and has published a book, "Your Future....Your Choice".  He has been a guest speaker at General Motors and Met Life events, as well as having chaired several advanced advisory boards.  Among his credentials, he is an IRS certified Enrolled Agent (EA), an Accredited Tax Preparer (ATP), & a Registered Financial Consultant (RFC).

 

Active in his church, Joe has been both a Stevens Minister and a Stevens Ministry Leader and has participated in helping the start up of several ministry operations.

 

Besides holding multiple black belts in the classical martial arts, Joe was also one of the first master-level instructors for the Rapid Rotation Baton, a unique baton used by law enforcement, correction officers, and security personnel all over the world.  Joe has also served on several professional teams in evaluating correctional facilities close-in-quarter techniques and tactics.

 

Joe also enjoys scuba diving, sky diving, and motorcycle riding.

 

Joe admits to "marrying up" to his wife Lois.  Together, they have 4 children and 5 grandchildren.  He believes his blessings in life come from God and is committed to cheerfully paying it forward.

Jeff Brueggemann, MBA, BBA, CPA

Consultant, Lecturer, & Former Professional Baseball Player

Jeff is currently teaching Global Business and Economics at California State University, Fresno. He is also an Asia business consultant with over 18 years of business experience in China as an analyst, portfolio manager, and consultant. Jeff lived most of five years in China as a consultant for Major League Baseball where he learned a working knowledge of Mandarin.

 

Prior to his China business interests, Jeff was Controller and Special Projects Coordinator for one of the largest mutual fund companies in the world.

 

He was drafted by the Minnesota Twins out of college and played six years professionally in the USA and Mexico, making it as high as AAA. He followed that up being a minor league general manager for four years in the California League for the Visalia Oaks, a Minnesota Twins affiliate, as well as serving as a professional scout.

 

As a former Ambassador for MLB, Jeff found time to instruct baseball clinics for youngsters in Vietnam, India, and China.  Partnering up with First Pitch, a charitable organization from New York, and Operation Smile Vietnam, Jeff was not only rewarded with working with kids on the fundamentals of baseball, but also assisting in the outreach of supplying medical needs and surgery to many children.

 

His personal efforts and passion for the sport he loves was highlighted in a documentary film, “The Only Real Game.”  It was a winner in two film festivals - the New York Indian Film Festival and the Arizona Sedona International Film Festival.

 

Jeff is a certificated CPA from the State of Illinois and has passed the Series 65 Investor Advisor Exam.  He earned an MBA in International Finance from the University of Kansas, a BBA-Accounting from Stetson University, and also studied Economics at the University of Chicago.

Alex Sirulnik, JD, BA

Attorney-at-Law

Alex has been providing more than 14 years of experience in real estate law to clients in South Florida. He focuses on representing clients through real estate and corporate transactional needs. Alex is known for his attention to detail and dynamic knowledge of the industry.

 

Alex represents a full spectrum of real estate clients in South Florida, including developers‚ investors‚ lenders‚ buyers and sellers with their purchase‚ sale‚ leasing and financing of commercial and residential real estate. In addition to his expertise in real estate law, he brings experience in business and general corporate law. He represents clients with the purchase and sale of a business‚ corporate stock‚ partnership interest, and the review and drafting of various general business agreements.  Alex received his JD degree from the University of Miami in 2000 and his BA degree from Kansas State University in 1996.

 

In 1991, Alex won a silver medal as a black belt competing in the North American Karate-Do Championships, Monterey, Mexico.

 

Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Alex emigrated to the United States with his family in 1979. He is fluent in Spanish and is admitted to practice law in the states of Florida and Arizona.

Alex McCauley, JD, BS

Attorney-at-Law & Former Law Enforcement Professional

Alex is a practicing attorney, licensed in both Missouri and Kansas, with his office located in Overland Park, Kansas.  Prior to becoming an attorney, he had accumulated 15 years of law enforcement experience on the local and federal levels.

 

As a police officer with both the Pleasant Hill & Kansas City, Missouri Police Departments, Alex served as a patrolman, SWAT Team panel member, & undercover operations officer for the vice and robbery units.

 

After leaving the KCPD, he entered into federal service as a deputy United States Marshal and served on the Marshal's Service Elite Tactical Unit of Special Operations Group (SOG), a unit designated to conduct high risk operations. He laterally transferred from the Marshals Service to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF).

 

During his tenure with ATF, he received several awards, including: the International Narcotics Agent of the Year Award for ATF; the Secretary of the Treasury Award for ATF; the Hostile Action Award for actions taken immediately after the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah building in 1995; and the KMBC-TV 9 Award for Valor, Bronze Award for Distinguished Service.

 

After leaving ATF, he acquired his JD degree and served as an Assistant District Attorney before opening his own practice as a criminal defense attorney.

 

Alex has trained in the classical martial arts for nearly 40 years, including Judo, Karate, and Goshin Jutsu.  His rank has been recognized by both the Bushidokan & Kenukan Budo Associations.

Mark Nugent

Chief of Emergency Services, Middlesex, VA

Mark is a 40-year veteran in the field of Fire, Emergency Medical Services, and Emergency Management.  Chief Nugent began this journey becoming a volunteer Firefighter on his 16th birthday.  Two years later he was hired by the Chesterfield, Virginia, Department of Fire and EMS, where he proudly served for 35 years; working his last 15 years as a Chief Officer.  During his career with Chesterfield, VA, Chief Nugent was named as the “Outstanding Career Officer of the Year”, and also the “Chesterfield County, VA, Employee of The Year.”

 

In 2013, after a two-day retirement, he was named the Chief of Emergency Services for Middlesex County, Virginia.  Working as a member of the County Administrators Leadership Team, Chief Nugent coordinates a dedicated organization of volunteer Fire and EMS first responders, as well as managing all Emergency Management operations in the waterfront community of Middlesex, Virginia.  Most recently, Chief Nugent was named the “2015 Outstanding New Emergency Management Professional”, by the Virginia Emergency Management Association.

 

A life-long learner, Chief Nugent has an Associate’s Degree in Fire Science, an Associate’s Degree in Emergency Medical Services, a Bachelor’s Degree in Organizational Management and Development, and is currently completing his Masters of Public Administration from Columbia Southern University.  Chief Nugent has lectured on the local and National level and is a published author; most recently as the co-author of the book and Web Site, “The Community Fire Safety Operational Guide”.

 

Chief Nugent is a member of the International Association of Fire Chiefs, the Virginia Fire Chiefs Association, and the Virginia Emergency Management Association.  Chief Nugent is also active on numerous local, State, and National Boards and Committees.

 

Most Important, Mark’s favorite pastime is being somewhere on the water with his wife April.

Carolyn Goodrick, MA, BA, BS

International Language Teacher

Carolyn has taught Japanese in the Olathe District’s (USD 233) International Language Department at Olathe East, Olathe South, and Olathe Northwest High Schools since 2006.  An advocate of studying foreign cultures, customs, and languages, she has co-led two study tours of Japan.

 

A native of Olathe, Kansas, Carolyn grew up with a passion for learning.  While taking Japanese in High School, she fell in love with the language, and knew it was something she wanted to peruse further.  Attending the University of Kansas, she graduated with a BA in East Asian Language and Literature: Japanese and BS in Secondary Education Foreign Language: Japanese.  She conducted her student teaching at both Olathe North High School and Yokota Air Force Base (Japan).  In 2012, Carolyn furthered her education by earning a Masters in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) from MidAmerica Nazarene University.

 

Besides her Academic excellence, Carolyn has been a student of the Classical Martial Arts (Karate-Do, Judo, & Ju-Jutsu) since 2000.  Happily married with two children, she enjoys reading, going to the theatre, and traveling.

Jolena Mauldin, MS, LCP

Licensed Clinical Psychotherapist

Jolena is currently the Director and Senior Therapist at Calming Storms Mental Health Group.  She is a Licensed Clinical Psychotherapist.  Jolena completed her Bachelors Degree in Psychology in 1993 at Emporia State University.  She graduated from Emporia State University with a Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology in 1995.

 

She began her internship in 1994 at a partial day hospital for severely emotionally disturbed children.  Since then, she has had experience in working in outpatient alcohol and drug services, outpatient services working with children and families, court ordered psychological evaluations, and working with youth and adults in the correctional system.

 

Jolena took a leap of faith and opened up her own private practice, Calming Storms, in January 2015. Together with God and her husband, the practice is growing and helping many families become successful.  She currently helps children, families, and adults calm the issues in their lives.

 

Jolena is a proud advocate of the Classical Martial Arts.  While supporting her son's dream of achieving his Black Belt, she can attest to the self-confidence, focus, and leadership skills that are forged through hard training.

 

Jolena enjoys traveling with her son and spending time with her 4 grandchildren.  In her spare time she makes unique jewelry and dabs in painting beach scenes.  Jolena is involved in her church and brings her faith into her practice whenever needed.
